
Research in neural aging and degeneration examines the biological mechanisms that drive age-related changes in brain function and the progression of neurodegenerative disease.
Faculty investigate cellular dysfunction, loss of neural connectivity and other processes that contribute to cognitive and behavioral decline. Using both human and animal models, researchers study risk factors, biomarkers and potential interventions to promote brain health across the lifespan. This work informs strategies to address conditions such as ALS, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
