Dopamine Molecule

Research in motivation and emotion investigates the neural circuits and signaling pathways that drive motivational states and emotional responses.

Faculty study how brain systems regulate reward, stress, mood and goal-directed behavior, as well as how disruptions in these systems contribute to maladaptive decision-making. Using methods such as behavioral assays, neural recording, neuroimaging and optogenetics, researchers examine the biological basis of emotional regulation. This work informs new approaches for treating conditions including depression, anxiety and substance use disorders.
