Research Summary:

My laboratory studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie normal and abnormal development of the cerebral cortex. Our studies focus on tiny hair-like structures called primary cilia, a type of ‘cellular antenna’ which projects from virtually all cell types in the cerebral cortex. We are exploring how cilia guide the development of different neural cell types, and the involvement of cilia in various pathologies the cortex ranging from deficits in intellectual capacity to aggressive brain tumors.
