Please come join us as we show off our local talent and engage with our amazing line up of speakers for the 13th Annual North Central Chapter Society for Neuroscience Regional Conference.
Festivities will start with poster sessions! There are so many poster presentations that two separate sessions had to be created, each which will host 25 and 28 posters respectively from 9:00am-11:15am in the HNPN reception Hall, followed by a Mi Appa lunch for those who requested lunch.
The Keynote speaker will be Dr. Timothy Allen, an Associate Professor at Florida International University (FIU). He serves as the Director of the Department of Psychology, the Chair of the Neurocircuitry & Cognition Lab and is a part of Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
Dr. Allen Lab studies the contributions of circuits connecting the hippocampus and medial prefrontal cortex, including the nucleus reuniens of the thalamus and perirhinal cortex, to memory and behavior. Importantly, the connections between the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex are abnormal in several mental health disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, developmental lead neurotoxicity, epilepsy, and ADHD), yet the exact nature of connectivity irregularities remains unclear. He will be presenting the NCF SfN regional conference Keynote :“Nucleus reuniens transiently synchronizes memory networks at beta frequencies ”
Following the Keynote, presentations will be held in Communicore C1-011 showcasing up-and-coming senior graduate students and postdocs in Blitz Talks.
Rebecca Wallings, PhD – “The role of the peripheral immune-system in FTD-GRN; increasing understanding for future therapeutic target development”
Alejandro Albuiz- “Artificial Intelligence Approaches for Early Detection of Dementia”
Wonn Pyon- “The role of dopamine in risky decision making”
Marilyn Horta, PhD-“Age differences in trust-related decision-making”
Rosa Mirabel-“Role of the norepinephrine transporter in Lewy pathology progression in Parkinson’s disease”
Finally, insights and wisdoms from a Careers in Science- Academia to Industry Panel will be presented from some local giants including:
Drs. Malú Tansey, Gerry Shaw, and Edgar Rodriquez
The day of celebration will conclude with announcing the poster session award winners.
