University of Florida neuroimmunologist Malú Gámez Tansey, Ph.D., earned the annual J. William Langston Award for her service and dedication to the shared goals of The Michael J. Fox Foundation, which is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease and ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson’s today.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this award,” said Tansey, co-director of UF’s Center for Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Disease and the first endowed chair of the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases at UF Health. “As scientists, we can’t solve and understand Parkinson’s without interacting with the patient community and encouraging them to participate in clinical trials and disease education. Through my work with The Michael J. Fox Foundation — and participating in these educational opportunities for patients — it keeps me grounded and motivated as a scientist.”
