Two Department of Neuroscience faculty chosen as AlzSTARS Scholars

Drs. Valerie Joes and Karina Alviña were chosen as AlzSTARS Scholars.

This program (Alzheimer’s Science Training to Advance Research Success or AlzSTARS) is a collaboration between the  1Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (1FLADRC) is a National Institute of Aging funded collaboration of The University of Florida, University of Miami, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University and the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami.

The primary aim of the AlzSTARS program is to recruit and train highly qualified Early Stage Investigators (junior faculty or research associates) from across the 1Florida ADRC consortium whom are diverse with regard to gender, ethnicity, SES, discipline, consortium site, translational research interests, and career plans, and disposed to study diversity and disparity factors in Alzheimers disease and related disorders (AD+ADRD) research. The AlzSTARS program provides two years of partial financial support and research training to develop the skills necessary to build a well-funded, collaborative career in clinical/ translational research with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders.
