A new study led by UF neuroscientist Brent Reynolds, Ph.D., is the latest step in identifying “cancer stem cells” — cells that initiate and drive long-term tumor growth — in medulloblastoma, a prevalent childhood cancer.
Identifying and targeting those cells may be important for better treatment outcomes, said Reynolds. The new study, published Jan. 18 in the journal PLOS One, identifies cancer stem cells in a mouse model through the expression of a combination of cell surface markers.
