Travel Award Information

We are pleased to announce we are now accepting travel award applications for the 2016 Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA!

This travel award is sponsored by the Society for Neuroscience North Central Florida Chapter and is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral trainees presenting at the 2016 SfN Conference in November.  We will be giving $200 awards in the following categories:

1 – Undergraduate Student

3 – Graduate Students

1 – Postdoctoral Fellow

Undergraduate Student applicants should provide:

  1. Recommendation letter from the mentor that describes their role in the project they will present at SfN, discusses their contributions in other areas of science and research, and explains how their attendance at SfN will further their scientific and professional goals.
  2. Abstract accepted by SfN
  3. Half-age statement on your involvement with the Society for Neuroscience

Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Fellow applicants should provide:

  1. Updated CV
  2. Abstract accepted by SfN
  3. Half-page statement on your involvement with the Society for Neuroscience

Please send your application documents in a combined PDF to nflsfnchapter@gmail.com by Wednesday, June 1 by 5:00pm.

Only paid members of the SfN North Central Florida Chapter will be considered for this award.  All membership annual dues must be renewed September 1 of every year.  Annual dues are as follows:

  • $25 for faculty
  • $10 for all graduate students, postdocs, and staff
  • $5 for undergraduates participating in Brain Awareness Week or free for undergraduates who participated in last year’s Brain Awareness Week outreach
  • Free for all first year IDP graduate students

Awardees are chosen based on the scientific merit of the abstract, evidence of outreach activities, and academic credentials.  The nominee must be the first author of an abstract to be presented at the annual meeting.  The nominee may not be a recipient of another SfN travel award in the same year.  Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  2015 North Central Florida SfN Chapter travel awardees are not eligible to apply.

Awardees will be notified by June 30 if they have been selected.  Awards will be given as a personal check made available before the meeting.  Further instructions on receiving the award will be given at the time of notification.
