Eduardo Candelario-Jalil, PhD of the Department of Neuroscience and Zhihua Jiang, PhD of the Department of Surgery and were named the 2013 College of Medicine recipients of the UF Excellence Award for Assistant Professors.The annual program recognizes the research accomplishments of junior faculty members and includes a $5000 award to support the faculty member’s research-related activities. They were among only 10 awardees this year.
The Provost’s Office offers the Excellence Awards for Assistant Professors pending available funds. The awards are focused on junior faculty and recognize excellence in research. All the candidates presented extremely intriguing research. The selection committee members were inspired by the letters written on behalf of the nominees and gratified to see the strength of research on campus. The committee focused on the quality and innovativeness of the research, and sought to balance the diverse intellectual streams the canididates represented. In the course of the committee’s deliberations, Dr. Candelari-Jalil emerged as being uniquely worthy of this award.
